Im not sure if your basing your bashing by looking solely at his defense which he hasn't played much of it during his career, so there's no point in killing him now about..

Whats funny is when you say (particularly in this series) melo is doing too much iso, and woodson offense sucks, then single out our 3 point specialist for not getting the ball at all..Boston has defended the 3 ball pretty well, just pay attention to novak on the weak side watching jr and melo go one on one..

therefore, on this team: amare and his bad knees piss me off ($20mil), camby and his plantar fasciitis ($3mil) pisses me off
for novak ($4mil), hes useless if hes NOT making 3pters because he can do NOTHING else. despite screens and penetration, teams are paying more attention to him and contesting shots...therefore hes not hitting shots. I vote to bench him if he continues to miss. his defense is just SO bad that its not worth him playing. id rather see copeland play

Novak was 9th in 3pt shooting % this year.
In the real world his shots are not created but given by the defense. When defended the offense is given another option. He is both decoy and finisher.
His job is to hit a few shots and make the defense come to him which creates space.
4mm don't buy much in todays NBA. If you buy into "2nd seed, 1st place, etc etc" then it all adds up to the result.
It seems his only role now is floor spacer, so his man can't cheat and double Melo and JR.
In the off season he definitely has to develop a fadeaway or dribble step to free him up for a jumper. He came into this season with a headfake to a J, but we haven't seen that that much.
That and maybe attend a defensive drills camp. Maybe he can hire Olajuwon?

Yep. This is Novak. Either appreciate him because defenders give penetrators a lane on Novaks side or suck it up. We all knew what we were getting. Hopefully he can add something extra this Summer.
And at least he gives it his all on defense. Not that that's enough obviously but he is what he is.

He is serving his purpose though even when not hitting his shots. The lane opens up when he is in. Whoever is guarding him cannot sag off even when he is struggling thus opening it up for Melo and JR in the middle.
Novak is NOT cheap under this CBA. 4M for this guy is way too much. He's been completely irrelevant in every playoff game he's ever played with the Knicks. He's not athletic or crafty enough to warrant major minutes. Hopefully some team takes him off our hands this off season.

Novak is very deadly for his one skill. Knicks need to do a better job of offensive scheming to get him free from downtown. Novak also needs to work harder- seems like he's just floating around from one spot to the next. Knicks need to get him free using screens- and he needs to cut around the perimeter to find space. Problem is when the Knicks go ISO that leaves everyone standing around in the same spot to clear the way for Melo.
I don't care how good of a 3pt shooter he is - it does not come close to making up for not being an NBA level basketball player. He is lucky to be 6 10. If he was 6 6 he would not even get a scholarship offer from any D1 school, forget the NBA.
Literally everything else outside of his 3pt shooting is a joke. He almost let Boston back into the game by himself last night. He is somehow allowed to take shots 3-4 feet away from the 3pt line and everybody acts like that's his game. If that's your game, GTFO! I don't care how good advanced stats make him look - he does not belong on the floor period.
There are guys playing pickup ball who shoot open 3's just as good if not better than him, but they are not playing pro ball because they don't have the height to fool people into believing that they are a basketball player.

Basketball is a team game.
He is a member of it and does his job.
If we are results oriented he is what he is and the results are there.

Absolutely. Check out how Chicago doesn't bother to check Gerald Wallace on the perimeter, which makes it harder for the like of Bropez and Williams to get points at the rim.

Novak was completely useless against the Heat in the playoffs last year, and he has been completely useless through two playoff games this year. Fortunately, Woodson knows this as well as anyone and has not given Novak many minutes. I was surprised he brought him back in the second half of Game 2. Novak killed us in that stretch, and Woodson finally had to call a timeout to get Felton in the game for Novak as the Celts went on a little run.
I said before the playoffs that Novak would play a few minutes in the first half of playoff games and then not play at all in the second half, and that as we get deeper into the postseason, he may not even get off the bench at all. We can beat the Celts with a few wasted minutes by Novak, but we may not be able to waste those minutes in later rounds as the competition gets much tougher.
Novak really has no one he can guard on Boston and they are taking full advantage. Maybe if/when we play the Heat he can get better minutes matched up with Miller or possibly Rashard Lewis.
